Conference : Transcending the Human?
July, 5th 2017 - Toronto. The OPtic network together with St Michael’s College of Toronto University and the Toronto Dominican College jointly hosts an inter-disciplinary exchange between theologists and researchers on the topics of trans- and posthumanism. The Conference aims at creating a critical and inter-disciplinary exchange between theologists and researchers of different issues, though all regarding the topics of trans- and posthumanism; theology and religion will then encounter emerging challenges of scientific, technological, and social world.
While for posthumanism, human biology may remain unchanged, transhumanism can be seen as a stance that affirms the tradical transformation of human biological capacities and social conditions by means of technologies. The result of such a technologically induced version of evolution touches the relationship between human beings and animals, digital culture, machines or between men and women, rich and poor, etc.
